Travel guide
When to go: wildebeest migration, dry season and the long rains.

Kenya can be visited all year. The right month depends on what you want to see and how you feel about rain.
This is a popular time for wildlife viewing. Large herds of wildebeest and other grazers commonly reach the Maasai Mara between July and October, but the timing changes every year. River crossings are unpredictable, so no operator can honestly guarantee one.
Many safari destinations are popular in these months, so book early for the lodges you want.
The long rains arrive in many regions and can affect road conditions. Travel is still possible, and a good operator will plan routes around the weather.
If the migration is your priority, plan for July to October and stay flexible on dates. For a quieter trip, ask us about shoulder months. See our Maasai Mara safari or our 2-day Amboseli safari.
